Guys, myself and Henry Camargo will be following all the girls teams from here to San Antonio!
Here is my preview for the 806 playoffs on the Girls’ side!
6A:
For 6A’s classification, we only have one team alive and that’s the Frenship Tigers. They will win their first round game easily but what happens after that? Frenship has improved dramatically from last year, but will it be enough to beat those Metroplex teams that are waiting for them after the Bi-District round? Addisyn Bollinger, Abbi Holder and Abby Boyce will have to really step up for Coach Hilliard’s squad if they want to be playing next week in the Regional Round and Regional Tournament in 6A.
5A:
This classification will be one of the most watched and anticipated runs to the Alamodome in my history of covering the last ten years. We have the number one team in the state and the number one player in the country in the 2025 class with Aaliyah Chavez and the Monterey Plainsmen.
They have only lost three times this season and one was with Chavez out with injury. Monterey made it to the Regional Tournament last season before they were knocked out by Lake Dallas while Amarillo made it to State after winning the Regional Championship and defeating Lubbock-Cooper in the Regional Round before that as well.
This Region will come down to who out of those three teams comes out on top and can defeat Timberview before two of these three teams most-likely play each other for a shot at State. Stay tuned for the third round big game coming Monday or Tuesday when Amarillo will play Monterey for a spot in the Regional Tournament in Wichita Falls, TX.
4A:
This classification has a couple of teams that could make some deep runs in Canyon and Levelland; who are both ranked in the top six in the state. Coach Lombard has a solid team in Canyon’s Lady Eagles and are always in the championship mix every year! Levelland also has a history of making championship runs too and will be battle-tested and ready. Can teams like Estacado, Seminole, Randall and others make a run too? Yes. Will they? We will see soon!
3A:
This Region, according to the outsiders, has had a down year as we have had multiple weeks where teams weren’t ranked in the TABC 3A poll in the 806. I wouldn’t be surprised if teams like Idalou, Shallowater, Bushland, Canadian and others make some noise in 3A’s playoffs. Looking out there in Littlefield to see what they will accomplish in the postseason as they had a great regular season!
2A:
This is the jungle!! I really think New Home should come out of 2A and win it all, but I could be wrong. The Lady Leopards have the best backcourt in 2A with Addy Burns and Kelby Baccus.. Period! But they will have to rely on their deep roster to finish off teams late. I have seen a lot of their games and they have always had someone like Payton Conner or Stewart step up when needed and that can’t change if they want to get out of this Region with teams like Panhandle, Gruver, Sundown and others that will be ready and waiting for the challenge of taking down New Home.
1A:
Will Sands make another run? Or will teams like Jayton, Valley, Nazareth, Klondike or another team that catches fire make a run for the title?!?!
