THE 806 GIRLS TEAMS READY FOR HUGE REGIONAL TOURNEY WEEKEND

Well, three rounds are in and the playoffs are looking just like I expected..Except for Frenship's team not in the mix, Frenship had a great team and lost a stunner to Richland at the buzzer. So, let's check in on each classification's Regional Tournament for our 11 806 teams that have a shot at the Alamodome in San Antonio next week.

6A

Tascosa is here after wins over El Paso Pebble Hills, Trimble Tech, and El Paso Franklin. Now, they'll get South Grand Prarie's Warriors who have knocked off Hebron and #1 ranked Cedar Hill in the last week! https://twitter.com/DMNGregRiddle/status/1098041097543139328

This game will come down to turnovers as both teams score in the 50's and play tight-knit defense. If Tascosa advances, they will face the winner of Richland versus Desoto

5A

In this classification, there are two of the best teams in 5A in Amarillo and Lubbock-Cooper. The Lady Pirates will get #1 ranked Mansfield Timberview on Friday at 6:00pm at Western Texas College in Snyder. Coming off of a great win over Plainview, 43-30, the Lady Pirates will have to start strong early against Timberview in order to compete and win for a chance at the Regional Final. Amarillo looks just as good as they looked last year when they won the title. The Lady Sandies will get a hot and unranked Colony team at 4:00pm in Snyder. It would be awesome to see Amarillo take on Lubbock-Cooper for the third time this season, but it will be tough. But, aren't all the games tough now?

4A

In maybe the toughest Classification for the girls, 4A has the top two teams in the state...right here in the 806, and in the same district! Canyon and Levelland have both played exceptional this season and have had somewhat of an easy road to the Regional Tournament. The #1 ranked Lady Eagles will get the 6th-ranked Arygle Lady Eagles on Friday at 6:30pm at the Rip Griffin center in Lubbock, Texas. #2 Levelland's Loboettes will take the court next with a match-up with upstart Bridgeport at 8:00pm. These won't be either of these teams' hardest games this season, as their previous two games against one-another were the toughest games. I honestly think what I said in October is true: They will meet again on Saturday for a shot at state!

3A

"Wall", here we go.. This Regional Tourney has four teams that can win it all and I think whoever comes out of this Region will win it all. Jim Ned, Idalou, Brock and #1 Wall are here and ready to compete Friday at the Hutcherson Center in Plainview, Texas. Idalou can get out of this tournament, but it won't be easy. Jim Ned is just as good, but the Lady Cats have depth this year and can go 10 deep on their roster. The severely tough schedule that Idalou played this year should pay dividends now as they have played seven teams that are still playing now in Regional Tournaments. Idalou likes to play fast and love the three-ball while suffocating you on defense. My question for Idalou is Can they play with the lead and put teams away? They were up 10-0 over Bushland after the first quarter but let them back in the game and had a battle to win, 39-34. There is no room for error the rest of the way, and I expect the Lady Cats to rise to the challenge and get to San Antonio.

2A

2A, AKA...Murderers row... Panhandle and Wellington lead the way and should meet on Saturday for a trip to San Antonio. Panhandle was up 25-1 over Stratford after one quarter yesterday and didn't let up in their 78-39 victory. Wellington had a tough 48-44 win over a young Gruver team that will be heard from for the next few years. Pahandle gets Christoval first and Wellington will face Forsan at the Texan Dome at 1:00pm and 2:30pm Friday. The atmosphere should be crazy as well the games!

1A

We got the best game on Friday coming when #1 Nazaerth takes on #2 Ropes in the 1A Regional Semifinal at 8:00pm at the Texan Dome in Levelland, Texas at SPC! WOW!! But, before that, we will see McLean taking on New Home as well. Two huge games and the final game on Saturday should be great too!
