TEN GAMES WORTH ATTENDING FOR THE BI-DISTRICT ROUND IN THE 806 PLAYOFFS

It’s going to be a wild ride these next six weeks for our 806 football teams as the playoffs start Thursday! There will be some blowouts, of course, but there are also some dynamite matchups that will be worth your admission! Here are my top 10 games!

#1. TAHOKA VS GRUVER

FRI: 8PM KIMBROUGH STADIUM, CANYON TX

This game was one I didn‘t see coming! The Greyhounds are the 2A DII state runner-ups from 2018, but the injury bug has hit Gruver hard and that took a toll on their progress this season. Tahoka, on the other hand, has been on fire this year and won their district impressively and look to make a statement by winning this game and sending the Greyhounds to basketball season early.

#2 FRENSHIP AT EL PASO AMERICAS FRI: 7PM, SAC EVENT CENTER EL PASO, TX

The Tigers are not a sleeper anymore; they’re up and pouncing even though they lost a tough game Thursday to a very great Tascosa team, 36-23. Donovan Smith, a Texas Tech 2020 commit, looked like the best player in West Texas under Center with a dazzling performance against the Rebels even though they came up short. Americas is solid; one of the best teams in El Paso and they get the Tigers at home..But they haven’t seen a Quarterback like Donovan or a receiving core like the Tigers have, headed by Drew Hocutt! I got the Tigers by a bunch as they prepare to make a run...

#3 MONTEREY VS EP EASTLAKE

SAT: 1PM, SAC EVENT CENTER, EL PASO TX

What a turbulent season for the Plainsmen; from 2-0, to 2-5, to 5-5 and a playoff spot! Monterey‘s offense is on fire right now as they have scored 131 points in their last two games! Coreon Bailey looks comfortable for Monterey and his top receiver Tyrie Tipton has 65 catches for 1,350 yards this season! The Plainsmen don’t mind going on the road as they have been very successful playing in El Paso. Don’t expect anything less than a dominant win Saturday as well.

#4 DUMAS VS WF FALLS HIRSCHI

FRI: 4PM LOWERY FIELD, LUBBOCK TX

Dumas!! Undefeated for the first time since 1997 and look like they are peaking at the right time! But, here comes their Achilles Heel; the first round of the playoffs. It’s going to be another tough game as WF Hirschi has gotten healthy and let’s not forget they beat Frenship; I don’t know how, but they did. Can Spencer lead his team to victory? Jacob Mares is out for the Demons but they still have a multitude of weapons to attack any team. Dumas has quality wins this year on their schedule so they are battle-tested. I’m pulling for a Demon Domination.

#5 TASCOSA VS EP PEBBLE HILLS

FRI: 6PM DICK BIVINS STADIUM, AMARILLO TX

Now, we all know Tascosa is going to win big but I put this here because I feel like this is the start of another special run for the Rebels like last year’s team that went to the State Semifinals. Joseph Plunk is the toughest player in Texas and LB Moore is electric off the line. I’m excited to see Tascosa kick off another long playoff run!

#6 FRIONA VS ANSON

FRI: 7PM ANTELOPE STADIUM, POST TX

I’m ecstatic for the Chieftains and their possibilities for the playoffs this season. They started 5-0 and lost to Childress, 27-7 and we thought.. Oh no, are the Chieftains going to miss the playoffs again. But they emphatically won their next game and then they finished off Tulia and Dimmitt in blowout fashion and head into the dance with some serious momentum! Cheering and rooting loudly for the Chieftains!

#7 RALLS VS CLARENDON

FRI: 7PM HORNET STADIUM, TULIA TX

Ralls was rolling until Tahoka beat them a couple of weeks ago. Last year Ralls lost in the first round of the playoffs as well. Can the JackRabbits get it done against a tough Clarendon team? It will be tough because the Broncos are tested and ready to make a serious run in this year’s playoff chase! A game that may go down to the wire.. should be seen by all!

#8 NEW DEAL VS HIGHLAND PARK

THU: 7PM BOBCAT STADIUM, DIMMITT TX

Here we go.. New Deal pulled out a huge win over Sundown Friday to secure the #2 seed in their district. Now they are the favorites to beat Highland Park. Folks, New Deal has to make sure not to take the Hornets lightly because they have played some of the best teams in Texas even though they lost. This could be a New Deal domination, or a Highland Park Upset. We will find out soon.

#9 SLATON VS BROWNFIELD

FRI: 7:30PM TIGER STADIUM, SLATON TX

Brownfield heads into this game against Slaton as a 2 seed, but lost a coin flip to Slaton and will travel to the Tiger’s Den for a colossal Bi-District game. Coach Flores has sacrificed some talent and wins for a more accountable, team-oriented culture for the Cubs. Will it pay off this early? Slaton has an explosive offense but needs to sure up the secondary to make a serious run in the playoffs. This is the 4th time Slaton and Brownfield have met in the last two years So expect some chippiness and a battle.. Well, expect a WAR!

#10 DENVER CITY VS RIVER ROAD

THU: 7PM LOWERY FIELD, LUBBOCK TX

I gotta be honest, I thought River Road wasn’t going to make the playoffs but boy, was I wrong! Congrats to Coach Welps and the Wildcats for never quitting and really thumping a great Littlefield team, 41-13 on Friday. So, here comes Denver City; a team that went 9-1 with a tough loss to Seminole early in the year and they have been rolling every since! This game will be intriguing due to River Road being so hot! Expect a grit-and-grind contest on Thursday, I’ll be live to see it unfold.

Any info, breaking news..
