SUNDAY MORNING BUMP-AND-RUN: CUBS, CATS SETUP HUGE GAME, LIONS STRUGGLING

Week four is in the books! I just thought I got done with two-a-days coverage a week ago, and I look up and we're starting district play in 2-5A DI Thursday and most schools in the 806 are one week away from starting district games as well! Let's look back at week four's action and recap the events and games that took place and stood out to me.

LUBBOCK-COOPER HAS RIGHTED THEIR SHIP

The Pirates look ready to sail into a tough district schedule with all their gear in-tow. I was very impressed with their defense Friday in the tough win over #2 Wichita Falls Rider, 17-14. Three interceptions including the game-clincher by Callan Ritz and multiple pass rushes and pressure led by Senior Ty Politte showed off an effective unit that will be needed as the Pirates' offense will need to be more consistent down the stretch in 2-5A DI play. I gotta say this: The Pirates offense does seem to always find a way to score when needed as they did that again Friday with the Cooper Morris receiving touchdown with less than a minute left to take the lead vs Rider and hand it over to their tenacious defense to finish off the game.

LITTLEFIELD AND BROWNFIELD ARE SET FOR THE BIGGEST GAME IN THE 806 FRIDAY

This game is about to be nuts! Get your popcorn ready for Littlefield vs Brownfield at Wildcat Stadium in Littlefield, TX! I would say get your hot chocolate, but it's still early in the season so leave that at home! Chip Green has been scorching hot for the Wildcats as Coach Thomas' offense is hard to learn quickly, but when his teams get it, things like this happen; multiple blowout wins and deep playoff runs.

Littlefield has already done what they couldn't last year and that's win four games! They were 3-0 in 2021 and lost seven-straight games and missed the playoffs. This year, tough tests still await in district but the 'Cats will make the playoffs in 2022. Brownfield also has more wins than they amassed in 2021 with their undefeated start! Coach Flores told me personally that this was the year that the Cubs make a run and he was right! Both teams won by 40+ points in week three and one team will have their first loss on the season after Friday Night! This is our game of the week so buckle up!

Other occurrences that have grabbed my attention:

I was very surprised that New Deal lost 42-10 to Trinity Christian. I can't remember the last time the Lions started off 1-3 on the season, and it won't last long as I feel they will bounce back soon.

Monterey is 0-4 but are knocking on the door for a win for Coach Thrash and the Plainsmen Nation. Their loss against Midland was a tough one to see as it looked like Monterey could've won that game if it wasn't for some untimely penalties. Luke Arrington is the new leader of that offense and will need to grow up fast as District 2-5A DI play begins Friday in a trip to Abilene to take on the Eagles!

Coronado has lost three-straight games as they ready for their homecoming matchup against the 3-1 Caprock Longhorns Friday; who come into this game very angry after losing a game on Thursday that the 'Horns thought they should've won against Canyon. Caprock has a nice offense and can do a lot of things good and stretch the field all game long! This will be a great game to see!

New Home had a great win over Floydada and look to have things rolling for Coach Ward and the Leopard Nation! Olton and Farwell both look awesome early and Muleshoe and Abernathy are both 3-0 after losing their first games on the year. Crazy to think we have only 7 weeks of football left before the playoffs begin!
