PERFECT: A SALUTE TO OUR SEVEN UNDEFEATED TEAMS LEFT IN THE 806

There are over 60 teams I cover throughout the year and almost all of them have a stumble, a bad luck situation, a rainout early or just get beat on an off day. But for these seven teams, they never had that. So let’s look at the seven undefeated teams left in the 806 before we start the playoffs in a few days.

1. DUMAS DEMONS

Dumas really took off this year with Coach Dunnam and their great defense! The first time since 1997 that they have ran the table. If the Demons can get by WF Hirschi, they have a very favorable bracket to get to the 4A DI State Quarterfinals.

2. ESTACADO MATADORS

Coach Cluley has turned the culture around for Estacado and the entire city of Lubbock has their back. Undefeated for the first time since 1968! Estacado gets a home game in the Bi-District round and then they will get Graham, and then the 4th-ranked team in 4A DII, Midland Greenwood. This year has special written all over it. One game at a time, and we might see them in Jerry’s World.

3. BUSHLAND FALCONS

Coach Thomas has another powerful team, that’s nothing new. What is new to me though is that Bushland has caught up to the pack in the upper echelon of 3A DI; well at least in Region I. The Falcons will soar past Tornillo Friday and then will get Eastland in the 2nd round. Eastland is a damn good football team, but not better than Bushland. Let the playoffs begin!

#4 CANADIAN WILDCATS

Canadian is the 806. Why do I say that? Well, they have been the best program in Texas small school football the last 20 years. All sorts of titles, big time players, and no drop-off! This year, they are hot again and look to win it all this time around as they came up a little short last season. Grant McCook and the rest of their talented lineup will put on a show starting Thursday.

5. POST ANTELOPES

THOSE ANTELOPES GOT THE JUICE. They have arrived a lot earlier than expected, but that’s what happens when you have great coaches and players that buy into the team. When they blew out New Deal, and put more points on them in one game than the Lions have given up in their previous eight games, folks started to believe. Taytem Thetford is a heck of a leader and Taye Perez is the heart of the bunch. Ashton Jefferson, Nathan McDaniel and a plethora of other players can score anywhere on the field at anytime. Post should make the Regional Final and meet San Saba there...

6. SUDAN HORNETS

Sudan! A tip of the cap from me as you guys finished the job this year and went undefeated. They got revenge on Farwell in the process and now will easily win their first round game against 0-10 Iraan. Then they will have a tough opponent in the 2nd round. This might be the year the Hornets do something crazy, like go very deep and contend for a title shot!

7. LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN EAGLES

The Eagles are ranked number one in their Tapps class and they should be; these young men and coaches have dominated all year. From Alex Lack making the game-saving interception against Tulia, to the Eagles taking the best version of Trinity Christian‘s football team we have seen in a while and beating them. They could win it all. Let’s root for them as they try to accomplish that goal!
