NEW HOME, ROOSEVELT AMONG TEAMS THAT COULD CLINCH A TITLE FRIDAY NIGHT

The 806 Football regular season is coming to an end this weekend and the playoffs are upon us! There have been some teams that didn’t play as well as thought, and teams that have excelled more than we thought like Roosevelt! Coming into this weekend’s matchups, there are a few games that mean a lot to the playoff outlook and here are those game previews!

CORONADO VS #4 TASCOSA

This game features a very hot Tascosa team that is ranked the highest their football program has been since 1968! Can the Rebels avenge their loss to Coronado from last year that cost them the District title? Let’s not forget Tascosa was up by 20 points in that game early until Sawyer Robertson and Antonio Malone got going and led an inspired comeback for the win; a win that Coach Plunk talked to me about in detail this summer stating that the loss threw off Tascosa and their chemistry for the playoffs.

NEW HOME VS SUDAN

New Home will go for their first-ever 11-man district championship against a Sudan team that is very healthy and locked in and playing a lot better now that their young guys have caught up to speed with Varsity Football!

IDALOU VS #7 ROOSEVELT

This one is the biggest game in West Texas, period, for Week 11! Roosevelt will travel to Idalou for a huge clash of great teams in 3A DII; a division stacked with great teams, including the State Champions from last year, Canadian. Alex Trevino and JJ Diaz have fought hard along with their Head Coach Matt Landers to get Roosevelt back to relevancy and it has happened. The Eagles are ranked seventh in the state in 4A DII and had an epic win over #6 Abernathy to lead Coach Landers to say, “Roosevelt ain’t gonna Roosevelt anymore.” I truly believe that but it will take everything the Eagles have to beat Idalou at home and Idalou wants to get this win to get more momentum rolling before the playoffs.

TULIA AT SPEARMAN

This is a huge playoff-potential game here! The winner is in the playoffs.. the loser is out! A lot of injuries for both teams, but those JV players and 2nd-stringers should be ready for their chance to shine on the big stage! Can Spearman rally at home and pull out a huge victory for their playoff spot?

LUBBOCK-COOPER VS RANDALL

Lubbock-Cooper will go for their 4th-straight district title against Randall tomorrow and have Senior Night for 33 young men who will play their last regular-season game at Pirate Stadium; we’re not talking about their first round playoff home-field advantage game next week against a Metroplex school.. Randall has played great ball this year under Coach Selman and had the player of the week for NewsChannel 10 as well for Week 10! A great game coming for both teams as they ready to make big time playoff runs again!
