NEW HOME POWERS THROUGH FLOYDADA FOR BERTH IN REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

New Home and Floydada have been down this path before, with both teams meeting last year in the 2A Region I final to determine who went to State. New Home bested the Whirlwinds last year and for this year, they would have to meet a round earlier to see who made it to the Regional Final in 2A.

In the first quarter, both teams started off hot with Caleb Cook and Braun Hobbs both making clutch jumpers that ended up having the first quarter deadlocked at 16. In the second quarter, New Home outscored the Whirlwinds, 15-10 and went into the half with the score, 31-26 in favor of the Leopards.

After the half, the score went back and forth as Jackson Martinez for New Home and Hobbs were scoring at a productive clip. Floydada quickly cut their deficit to three points before Caleb Cook hit a jumper from the key and got fouled, and made the score 39-33 with two minutes to go after converting the free throw. Floydada closed the gap to within three to start the fourth quarter with a late three-pointer.

New Home started off fast in the fourth with eight-straight points to put the game away between them and Floydada, with a final score of 54-43. New Home had four players in double-figures in what was a great all-around team effort and win for Coaxh Abney and the Leopards! New Home will await the winner of Plains and Olton for the Championship game on Saturday at 3:30pm at the Texan Dome in Levelland, TX
