New Home and Plains. The battle of two perennial powerhouses this season in 2A Region I. Plains has gotten the better of New Home on their prior three matchups as they won two of those games. Do, this matchup for a berth in the 2A State Tournament was going to be a great one!

In the first half, Plains secured a four-point lead, 27-23, with key shots from Tyler Vargas and Gavin Broome. Caleb Cook and Brazos Beck both led the way for New Home in the first half as well as the Leopards' Jackson Martinez.
In the third quarter, the Leopards woke up a bit in a sloppy quarter that had five total charges against both teams and outpaced the Cowboys, 9-3 in a period that saw them take the lead heading into the fourth, 32-30.
The fourth started off with six-straight points from Caleb Cook and New Home looked to seize the momentum with a 38-30 lead with 6:23 to go in the game. Immediately after a timeout for Plains, Vargas hit two-consecutive three-pointers to close the lead to only two for New Home at 38-36. The game was hotly-contested throughout the contest until New Home got into the bonus and made all of their free throws to win the game, 44-39 The Leopards are off to San Antonio, again!
I caught up with Coach Abney after the game to talk about their repeat-state appearance and more!
