MONTEREY AND CORONADO READY FOR DISTRICT BATTLES AS THE 2022 4-5A CHASE TO A TITLE CONTINUES..

Everything is going to be great tomorrow, besides the traffic situation on 50th and Indiana which is terrible! But other than that, these two games should be great ones tomorrow night at the New Box when Coronado comes to Monterey for two huge contests! Previews of both games tomorrow night is below!

On the boys side, can Monterey keep their momentum going as they head into district play? Aidan Castillo has been on a tear recently and had back-to-back 20-plus point games against Wichita Falls Rider and Randall and the Plainsmen are 8-deep on their roster. Coronado has been trying to find their way on the boys side and have put some great performances together since I last saw them in Decatur! DI Football Prospect, Camrien Manahan will be counted to help put enough points on the board Friday to keep up, and possibly win against a good Monterey team on the road in a heated battle!

Now, the girls have already played two games and this is the third district 4-5A game for Monterey and Coronado! Monterey is 2-0 in district and coming off a 37-point win over Abilene Cooper where Junior Small Forward Kelly Mora amassed 33 points, 27 rebounds and 14 blocks for an insane triple-double! Aaliyah Chavez also had 32 points, 13 rebounds and six assists on the night as the Lady Plainsmen went on a 27-5 run in the third quarter to seal the win! I wish this was the first time these teams would have been meeting but they have already squared off in the Caprock Tournament two weeks ago and Monterey won 67-37. This game will come down to how good can Coronado improve on their defense and how they will deal with Kelly and Aaliyah. Jazlyn Brathwaite is a certified stopper and Kya Smith is a force down low for the Lady Mustangs, but will that be enough? Is Taegan Ashley back from injury for Coronado because she is needed in this lineup as well? This should be a barn-burner once again, as this rivalry always is!!

Lubbock-Cooper will also take on Abilene Wylie at home at 6:00pm and Abilene Cooper will take on Lubbock on the road as well. Here are the updated standings until tomorrow's games are done.

Monterey 2-0

Lubbock-Cooper 2-0

Lubbock 1-1

Coronado 1-1

Abilene Wylie 0-2

Abilene Cooper 0-2
