LUBBOCK-COOPER VS WF RIDER HIGHLIGHT SOME BIG GAMES IN WEEK EIGHT ACTION.
This season is going by so fast! Just two months ago we started the season and now new are four weeks away from the season coming to a close. Every game counts now; either for seeding, or for your team to have a chance at making the playoffs or getting ready for basketball season. Here are some great contests coming this weekend that will determine a lot for these clubs.
1. LUBBOCK-COOPER VS WF RIDER 3-5A DII

This game will be a huge one. Thinking about last year's contests, the Pirates got the best of Raiders in the regular season, only to get knocked out of the 5A DII State Quarterfinals in one of the most exciting games in the state all year. What has changed since? A lot. Coach Max Kattwinkel has stepped to the side and now Chip Darden has taken over as the Head Coach. Tailback Nehemiah Martinez has also become eligible and looks great on both sides of the ball and players like Kobie McKinzie and Ayden Visage are receiving National interest on the recruiting trail. This game, for all intensive purposes, is for the District title. This means a lot for seeding as well. Both of these teams will host first round games, but the loser of this game will have a tougher draw, starting in the second round. This game will come down to how much the Pirates keep Jacob Rodriguez contained, if that's even possible. He was really a force last season in the playoffs last season and especially against the Pirates in their win over LCP. Rider will also have to deal with the three-headed rushing attack of Lubbock Cooper and a very good back end of the defense for the Pirates. This will be a big barometer game for both teams to see where they stand before both make big runs in the playoffs. Who knows, they may see each-other again late...
Here is last year's game highlight.

#2 CORONADO VS MONTEREY 2-5A DI

This game has lost a little juice due to Monterey being 2-4 and Coronado being 3-4, but it's still a big game for the city of Lubbock, and a huge game for 2-5A DI seeding because the loser here will be fighting for the fourth spot with a serious shot at missing the postseason altogether. The Mustangs have had a lot of close calls this season and their record could easily be 5-1. Sawyer Robertson has found his groove with Eli Martinez on the offensive side of the ball, they just need the defense to come up with a few more key stops to keep the train rolling. Monterey, on the other hand, is on a four-game skid and really need a win so the Plainsmen can right the ship. The season is not over and Monterey can still make a run even though it will start out in El Paso if they get in the tournament. The Plainsmen were up 33-13 last year in the fourth quarter before losing 34-33 in the last seconds to Coronado. Can the Plainsmen get it together in time to realize their dreams they have for this season? We will all find out soon.
#3. ABERNATHY VS COAHOMA 3-2A DII

This game will be for the district lead, and probably the title. Coahoma is not in our area, but will give Abernathy a great game...maybe. I Honestly think the Antelopes may blow Coahoma out as they have too many weapons and one of the most talented dual-threat quarterbacks in Texas in Bryson Daily, who committed to the ARMY last weekend. The 'Lopes are getting ready for a deep playoff run, and I think this game is just another pit stop on the way.
