CRUZ CONTROL: AVIAN BLASTS HIS WAY TO PLAYER OF THE WEEK IN THE 806 WITH 7 TD ONSLAUGHT

There was a great slate of games last weekend in 806 football and most of those games delivered on the excitement front. But, there was one game in particular that stood out the most; the West Texas 76-48 win over Gruver. West Texas' Avian Cruz delivered the game of the week in the 806 with a 372 yard rushing game, along with six touchdowns on the ground and a passing TD! I caught up with Avian and we discussed their season so far, along with the performance!

1. 372 Yards rushing and six rushing TDs and a passing TD! When did you know you were in a zone?

Avian Cruz

After the very first drive I had a good feeling about the game. And credit to my Offensive Line helping me make it happen.

2. What did you guys practice on all week to get prepared for The 2A DII state semi finalists from last year to get the win?

Avian Cruz

We practiced on running the ball and playing fast on Offense and playing even faster on Defense.

3. I heard you used to be a quarterback, how did the transition come about for this season?

Avian Cruz

I’ve played QB since middle school except when I was a freshman I was a slot receiver when Jalin was Quarterback.

4. You guys hung with Canadian, and beat 2 state-ranked teams so far. What did you guys work on this summer to get better?

Avian Cruz

We worked hard everyday in the weight room and as soon as we were finished lifting we conditioned no matter how hot it was.

5. Now another hard game awaits as you guys will get Wellington, coming off a loss. What will you have to do to contain the Skyrockets?

Avian Cruz

We will need to work hard all week and keep our minds right as well as go out Friday night and play assignment football as fast as we can on Defense.

6. Finish this sentence: A perfect season for the Comanches will be to:...

Avian Cruz

To stay healthy, believe in one another, and always play as hard as we can on every single down.
