CHILDRESS PULLS AWAY LATE FROM IDALOU TO ADVANCE TO THE 3A REGIONAL TOURNAMENT

This was the third time Idalou and Childress have met up this year, considering both teams are in the same district and, as expected, it started off with a bang in the first quarter as both teams were tied at the end of the stanza at 18.

In the second quarter, Childress started on a 11-2 run, led by Jesus Jalomo with three-straight three-pointers in the quarter and pushed the lead out for Childress to 29-20. The second quarter ended with a layup from Tate Hendley from Idalou and then a buzzer-beater from Caleb Moore of Childress to take the halftime score to 35-26 for the Bobcats.

In the third quarter, Childress and Idalou battled it out with clutch shots from Kutter Houchin of the Wildcats and Billy Moore of the Bobcats and Idalou pulled to within six, trailing 45-39 to start the fourth.

In the last quarter, Houchin and Hendley both made clutch buckets and pulled Idalou to within two at 50-48 with three minutes remaining in the game. After two failed possessions by both squads, Childress' Billy Moore stepped up to the line and hit a free throw to make the lead three for the Bobcats, 51-48 with two minutes left in the game before things got physical.

Idalou's Wildcats, who struggled on the boards most of the night, gave up another offensive rebound to the Bobcats but made a clutch stop but missed two crucial free throws late to keep the lead at three for Childress. On the next possession, Idalou fouled and were in the bonus as Billy Moore hit two more free throws to extend the lead to 53-48 with :50 seconds to go.

After an Idalou stop and three-pointer from Logan Mennel to cut it to two, the Wildcats intentional-fouled Isiah Jalomo and he hit both free throws and Aiden Allen hit his free throws after being fouled as well to stretch the lead for Childress to 57-51 with :30 seconds left.

After exchanges of free throws for both teams late, Childress outlasted Idalou and advanced to the 3A Regional Tournament again with the final score in their favor, 63-56. Childress will play the winner of Jim Ned and Holliday this Friday in Wolfforth, TX

I interviewed Coach Parker from Childress after the game and asked him about his teams' resolve and having to defeat Idalou three times in one season!
