CHAVEZ, BLACKLOCK ATOP THE LIST OF TOP NATIONAL BASKETBALL PLAYERS IN THE 806
Updated: Sep 16, 2021

As basketball gets closer, the anticipation is building amongst our 806 girls basketball players and our great teams coming back for the 2021-2022 basketball season. We have an unbelievable list of basketball players on the girls side, and have a few National prospects that are already on the scene and may be ranked in the top five in the Nation when the ESPN Rankings come out soon. So, here is our top prospects in the 806, with only the top 10 girls being ranked with the rest of our prospects, unranked below.
#1 AALIYAH CHAVEZ- GUARD 2025/ MONTEREY HIGH SCHOOL
Here is the best prospect the 806 has had in the last 30 years. She is a dangerous player with one of the best basketball packages ever to grace a floor in the Nation. When the ESPN rankings come out for her 2025 class, Chavez will be ranked in the top five in her class in the Nation. She has been all across the United States this summer, lighting up players left and right along the way and is constantly getting better; she is never satisfied with her game. Aaliyah has 12 Division One offers and hasn't even taken one dribble of high school basketball. I wanted to give a shoutout to Texas Tech's women's basketball program for realizing her talent and offering her first in the eighth grade! Who knows where she lands, or the rest of the teams that will assuredly come offering, but one thing is for sure: She is the best player the 806 has had this good, this early, in a long, long time!
#2 ADLEE BLACKLOCK- 2022 SHOOTING GUARD/ LUBBOCK-COOPER HIGH SCHOOL (OREGON STATE VERBAL COMMIT)
Adlee is sensational! I have watched a ton of basketball over the last nine years and no one, I mean no one, can get hotter and put up 30 on you faster than Adlee. She is also a very hard worker and will come back this season better than she was last season when she was injured. Blacklock will be playing for the Lubbock-Cooper Pirates this season and their team, led by Coach Lovorn, has a legit shot to win it all; I honestly think they will, looking at their roster and the depth they have, but we'll get to teams later. Adlee fits in perfectly with Lovorn's offensive and defensive principles and I can't wait watch her in here new uniform and team, ball out once again before she heads to Oregon State for college basketball.
#3 BAILEY MAUPIN-2022 SHOOTING GUARD/ GRUVER GREYHOUNDS (TEXAS TECH VERBAL COMMIT)
Bailey verbally committed to Texas Tech this summer and the Lady Raiders hit a home run with this commit. Maupin is physical, alert, defensive and a bully down low. A great teammate and even greater person and I look for her to lead her team this season to a deep playoff run in 2A's playoffs. I also think the Greyhounds could win it all, again.
#4 GABRIELLE FIELDS-2022 SHOOTING GUARD/ BROWNFIELD LADY CUBS (NORTHERN COLORADO VERBAL COMMIT)
Gabi has done it all already; from helping the Lady Cubs to win the title last season for the Lady Cubs' first title since 1989 with Sheryl Swoopes, to being named the 3A State Tournament MVP and first team All-State in 3A last year. So, what's in store for the 2022 Northern Colorado verbal commit? A chance to maybe go undefeated, and repeat as champions with their new state-of-the-art gym, opening in November. I sat there at one playoff game and watched Fields sure 14 points...in two minutes! She is a lockdown defender and has midrange game, along with the three-point game as well. Humble, hungry, and fired up. I'd hate be lined up against her this winter.
#5 KELLY MORA-2023 SMALL FORWARD/ MONTEREY PLAINSMEN
One note that a lot of us didn't know: Kelly was offered by Texas Tech's previous staff in the eighth-grade! Mora has potential to be one of the best players in Texas down low for the next two seasons when she wants to be. Mora will dominate you in the post with ease, and can also step out to three-point range and make those shots also. She is coming off an injury from last year and has just recently been cleared to go full-contact in practice. Folks, when she gets into game shape and becomes fearless again it will be a major problem for her defenders. Kelly also is very good on defense and has quick feet. Lookout!
#6 AVERY CARTER- 2024 GUARD/FORWARD TASCOSA HIGH SCHOOL
Avery has the most upside of any player in the 806 and her 6’4” frame is used well with her great interior game. Carter is a fierce competitor and can take over a game when needed. She heads the list of great 2024 players from the 806 and has a couple DI offers already!
#7 TAYTUM BELL- 2024 SMALL FORWARD/ AMARILLO HIGH SCHOOL
Taytum is a serious prospect with a lot of upside for the Lady Sandies. Bell already has a couple of offers and having some workouts in the next couple of days with some major visitors! She could end up with double-digit offers before she becomes a Senior.
#8 BRILEY BARNES- 2022 POWER FORWARD/ AMARILLO HIGH SCHOOL (TULSA BASKETBALL COMMIT)
Briley had a ton of offers before she committed to Tulsa this summer. She told me their coaches made her feel like she was at home and they were truthful in their recruitment process and that made her decision easy to commit to Tulsa. Her 6'6' frame is used well and she also has range beyond the arc too! Bar new is a bout to have a great Senior season!
#9 KYA SMITH- 2023 SMALL FORWARD/CORONADO HIGH SCHOOL
Kya has always been a great talent, but this summer has been a great one for her as the rest of the Nation is starting to see what we all knew; she's a baller! She holds an offer from Texas A&M Commerce and has went on a few unofficial visits as well within the last couple of months. Kya also does it in the classroom as she holds a 4.8 gpa, and still puts all that work in on the court too! Somebody is going to get a major asset for the 2023 class!
#10 DABRIA BLACKWELL- 2022 GUARD/ BROWNFIELD HIGH SCHOOL
Dabria is one of the most clutch players in West Texas and is a stopper...PERIOD. If you want someone out of the game offensively, put Dabria on her and it's a done deal. She hit multiple three-pointers and clutch free throws down the stretch for the Lady Cubs in their championship run last winter and guarded the other team's best player and shut them down every game. Somebody will get a steal in the 2022 class with Dabria; she is a player!
#11 VICTORIA BARRERA- 2024 GUARD/AMARILLO HIGH SCHOOL
Victoria also had a great summer and picked up a Division One offer last week! She is shifty, fast, and deadly from beyond the arc and still has until 2024 to sharpen her game before she heads off to college! I like her game a lot!
#12 BREE BRATTAN- 2022 GUARD/ SHALLOWATER MUSTANGS (WEST TEXAS A&M COMMIT)
Bree is an electric guard with a lot of mobility and really can punish you down low. Her quick release is also very accurate and she can put up 50 at any given time! Bree chose West Texas A&M as she had many offers to choose from! She will have a great season for the Mustangs!
Now, 13-42 aren't ranked in any order. These young ladies all are ballers as well and some have multiple offers! A lot of good basketball players in the 806!
#13 BELLA SIPOWICZ- 2022 POWER FORWARD/ LUBBOCK-COOPER PIRATES
#14 DEJA JOHNSON- 2022 SMALL FORWARD/ BROWNFIELD HIGH SCHOOL
#15 TIA JOHNSON- 2022 SMALL FORWARD/ BROWNFIELD HIGH SCHOOL
