806 ROAD TO 2021 FOOTBALL: GIBSON, HOEL HIGHLIGHT TOP 806 QB’S RETURNING TO GRIDIRON

Last season the 806 had some exceptional quarterback play that was headlined by Coronado’s Sawyer Robertson, who won the Gatorade Texas Football Player of the Year for 2020! So, while we don’t have that type of quarterback excellence returning to the Hun City for the 2021season, we do have some great leaders of the huddle coming back. Here are my top 15 quarterbacks, ranked.

*1 HOLT GIBSON- LUBBOCK-COOPER C/O 2022

Holt is the prototypical quarterback for Division One colleges; 6’3” 205 and has a dart! Gibson split time with Cooper Lafebre last season and shined when he was on the field. This season he won’t be splitting any reps and Holt will be counted on to deliver for Coach Darden and the Pirates. I feel as if the offense may struggle early due to their significant losses on the offensive side of the ball this season, but they will round into form just in time for another deep run in the playoffs for the Pirates. Holt is a DI prospect on the field and on the diamond as he is a great pitcher too!

*2 JESS HOEL- ABERNATHY ANTELOPES C/O 2022

(Army Offer)

Jess is set to have an explosive Senior Season for the Antelopes! Hoel has been all over the country and in the West Texas Passing Academy’s lab this summer getting better at his craft daily! Hoel led the Antelopes to a playoff appearance and a layer in one of the most exciting games in the Bi-District round last year with the ‘Lopes coming up a bit short in their loss to Childress. This year Hoel will be out to lead Abernathy to a deeper run and will pick up a few more offers in the process.

*3 COLBY SIMS- ESTACADO MATADORS

C/O 2022

Colby patiently waited his time and now it’s time: He’s in prime position to play himself into some offers and to take Estacado and their high-powered offense to another level this fall. Colby has also been working this summer and has really been hitting the weight room and improving his upper body strength to be able to handle a grueling upcoming season for the QB1 at Estacado. Colby has two great tailbacks behind him, a serious pile-pushing Offensive line led by Washington State Commit, Jihad Lateef and receivers that create separation all over the field. This really could be a special year for Colby and the ‘Mats!

*4 LANDYN HACK- PANHANDLE PANTHERS C/O 2023

Landyn received an offer earlier this week and will have a bunch more before he is done in 2023. He stands 6’4” and weighs 195 pounds of all grit and heart! Hack saw minimal playing time with the Panthers last year playing behind UTPB commit, Wes Jones, but he will be the QB1 for the next two years for Head Coach Dane Ashley and will explode onto the scene; just know we told you first!

*5 BROCK WADE- AMARILLO SANDIES

C/O 2022

Brock threw for 1,725 yards and 25 touchdowns last season and led the Sandies to an Area Round playoff appearance! He will have more control of the offense this year and Coach Dunnam will trust him to get it done through the air: I’m sure he will. He has the measurables, as he stands 6’3” and weighs 180 and may hit 190 before the season starts. He should pick up some steam during the season and will get some offers to play next level.

8. CAMREN CAVALIER- CANADIAN
