806 REALIGNMENT 101: A COMPLETE BREAKDOWN OF EVERY DISTRICT, 6A-2A

The biggest two events in Texas High School football are the State Championship week and Realignment every two years. Today lived up to the hype as teams found out where they're going, who's going with them, who dropped and who moved up! Here is the complete breakdown of the 806's realignment!

6A

Well, Frenship is now by themselves as far as 6A teams go since Tascosa has moved down to 5A DI. Abilene and San Angelo Central are back in the district with Permian, Odessa High, Midland and Midland Lee. After a great season in 2019 under Coach Northcutt, Frenship will have another tough schedule and district waiting for them again in 2020.

2-6A

1. FRENSHIP

2. ODESSA PERMIAN

3. ODESSA HIGH

4. MIDLAND

5. MIDLAND LEE

6. ABILENE

7. SAN ANGELO CENTRAL

5A

2-5A DI was happily surprised when El Paso Chapin decided to opt up to 5A- DI to save any 806 teams from having to have them in the district. That, in turn, made it easier for AISD and LISD to combine to form a seven team district. Tascosa is the eye-raiser here because they have made deep runs in 6A and will absolutely make a couple of runs here as they will be the favorite in 2-5A DI.

2-5A DI DISTRICT:

1. TASCOSA

2. AMARILLO

3. LUBBOCK

4. MONTEREY

5. PLO DURO

6. CAPROCK

7. LUB. CORONADO

3-5A DII

As far as this district goes, nothing changed, football-wise. Lubbock-Cooper will be the favorite again, but Rider will be right behind them and those two teams may meet again in the State Quarterfinals for the third-consecutive year.

3-5A DII DISTRICT:

1. WF Rider

2. Wichita Falls

3.Lubbock-Cooper

4. Plainview

5. Abilene Wylie

6. Canyon Randall

4A

Let's start off by saying this: Estacado has scheduled one of the toughest non-district schedules in Texas! The Matadors start off with a rematch against the team that sent them home in Midland Greenwood. Then there will be games against Dumas, Hereford, Canyon, Andrews and Bushland! That shows me the Matadors are committed to finish this season! Dalhart leaves their district, while Seminole rejoins 2-4A DII. One note here: Perryton vs Seminole will be a five hour drive for either team. Almost 10 hours there and back. WOW!

2-4A DII

1. ESTACADO

2. PERRYTON

3. LEVELLAND

4. BORGER

5. SEMINOLE

In District 3-4A DI, nothing changes as Pampa. Canyon, Hereford and Dumas are all in the playoffs again for the next two years. Expect Dumas to make another deep run as well.

1. DUMAS

2. PAMPA

3. HEREFORD

4. CANYON

3A

In 3A DI, Lamesa has moved in as well as Dalhart who both dropped down from 4A. Shallowater and Denver City are in the same district again and Bushland is in 2-3A DII. Can't wait for these cross-district matchups in the first round! Also, before I jump off the cliff, how about Bushland's non-district schedule! Teams like Brock and Estacado in the mix!!

In 2-2A DI Tahoka moves up and moves into this district replacing Olton . Post is still the favorite with Sundown and New Deal behind the Antelopes.

This Class went bonkers!! Congrats to Ropes for joining the 2A Fold and will be competitive right out the gate. In 1-2A DII, Plains and Seagraves will be traveling a lot as they are in the district with McCamey, Iraan and Wink's Wildcats! In 2-2A DII, New Home, Bovina, Smyer, Sudan and Ropes will be in the same district. Looks like Bovina and Sudan will be battling for first place, but we will see how much New Home has improved and if Slyer is ready to take the next step and get a district title. In district 3-2A DII, the same powers remain with Stratford, Gruver and Vega while Sunday and Booker finish out that district. In 4-4A DII, Clarendon moves into this district with Memphis, Shamrock, Wellington and Wheeler! Folks, that's a tough district!!! In Region II, Lockney, Ralls, and Crosbyton enter into a district with Hamlin and Roscoe. Let the games begin!
