806 BASKETBALL WEEK IN REVIEW: MONTEREY, LUBBOCK-COOPER IMPRESS

High School Girls Basketball officially kicked off in the state of Texas this past weekend and we saw some great team and individual performances! There will be more to come as we will be covering basketball until August for all of our 806 teams! Here is a rundown of the past weekend for our 806 Basketball teams!

MONTEREY STUNS IN OPENER:

Everyone wanted to see how the new Monterey girls squad looked with key additions added to the team with Texas Tech 2023 verbal commit, Kelly Mora and 2025 5-star Guard, Aaliyah Chavez, and no one was disappointed! The Lady Plainsmen defeated Midland Legacy, 106-31 in the most points scored for a Coach Schneider- led team, ever. Now, keep in mind that Coach Schneider has been coaching for 25 years! Aaliyah ended up with 39 points, six assists and five steals; pretty good for her Sophomore debut! Ambrosia Cole, a highly sought-after 2026 guard, also impressed on the night with 21 points and four steals.

LUBBOCK-COOPER MAKES EARLY STATEMENT

The Lady Pirates looked great this weekend at the South Oak Cliff Showcase and defeated two top-five teams down there as well! Coach Lovorn looks to have another impressive squad that made it to the Regional Round last year in 5A!

FRENSHIP AND PLAINVIEW HAVE SOLID OUTINGS IN WINS

I went to Sudan to check out the Tigers and they looked really good against the 'Nettes in a 69-18 win Saturday. Gabby Morales, a Junior for the Tigers, had 15 points and eight rebounds while Freshman Addisyn Bollinger tallied 12 points in her debut on varsity for Frenship. Andie Caddel, Abby Boyce and Abbi Holder also looked solid for Coach Hilliard's squad.

Plainview's Lady Bulldogs also started the season off with a win over Pampa 60-40! Plainview was up 22-2 after the first quarter before slowing it down and putting it in 2nd gear. Look for the Lady Bulldogs, led by 2025 top-prospect Mady Williams to make some noise in 5A this season!

ROPES IMPRESS WITH A 70-POINT WIN

Ropes, led by Tatum Melton, put up 79 points and won by by 70 points over Trinity Christian, 79-7 on Saturday! I really applaud the Lady Eagles for not running the score up more as they could've put up well over 100 but the game was in hand and the starters were pulled; a class act by Ropes! Good luck to both teams the rest of the way!
