FOUR THINGS THAT STOOD OUT TO ME DURING 2017 SPRING FOOTBALL IN THE 806..

Well, Spring Ball 2017 is over for the “6”..What did we learn from the 18 practices these 5A and 6A teams held over May? A lot. How about Frenship having their first-ever Spring practices and game under new management, I mean, new head coach in Northcutt and Lubbock-Cooper practicing and playing at their middle school field due to new turf being installed on their main field. Coronado opened up the spring by trying to find new playmakers in the secondary and which receivers would replace Chance Fair and Noah Sifrit…

806HSSCTXHSFB: CORONADO MUSTANGS 2017 TEAM PAGE: STANGS’ RELOADED FOR ’17

Let’s start off by giving Coronado some love for the season they had last year… Going 9-1 in the regular season with their only loss to a great Lubbock-Cooper squad, 35-30. Their playoff runs with wins over Caprock and El Paso Chapin was also impressive, and almost spectacular as they were within a point of Colleyville Heritage at the half, 28-27 before losing their Regional Quarterfinal game 43-34. The Mustangs lose two first-team all-state players in Mason Montoya and Christian Hayes, and also a second team all-state receiver in Noah…

FOUR THINGS I LEARNED THIS WEEK WATCHING THE GENE MESSER TOURNAMENT..

I went to check out this fairly new tournament, the Gene Messer Shootout at Frenship High School Wolfforth, Tx this weekend. A plethora of things stood out to me while viewing some of the best athletes in the 806 and beyond. Is Coronado a serious state contender? Is Estacado like ten times better than any 806 4A team? How will Monterey’s team shake out this season? Here are my thoughts on the tournament below. 1.  #5 CORONADO COULD MAKE IT TO STATE IN BASKETBALL THIS SEASON.. The Gene Messer tournament winners from…

THE ELITE ELEVEN UNDEFEATED TEAMS IN THE 806: THE STATE OF THE 806 ADDRESS..

There are 65 teams in the 2A-6A football level that I cover every year. Only eleven teams remain without a loss on their record in 2016. Why are these teams undefeated? What will be the reason those teams finish the season undefeated? Why will these teams suffer a loss, if at all? Let’s go through every undefeated team and their chances of finishing the season unblemished.   THE STATE OF THE 806 ADDRESS: THE ELITE ELEVEN UNDEFEATED TEAMS IN THE 806 #1(12) LUBBOCK-COOPER PIRATES: 4-0 DISTRICT 4-5A PROBABILITY OF FINISHING SEASON…

806 WEEK ONE 5A WRAP-UP: MONTEREY DOMINATES, CANYON WINS A THRILLER..

In week one for 3-5A, there was a mixed bag of results for all the squads that played. Amarillo and Lubbock-Cooper’s games was called in the second half due to lightning; the second-consecutive year that the Pirates first game was a no contest. Cooper was dominating the game in terms of yardage, but Jarret Doege had thrown three interceptions in the first half. As we noted earlier, Coronado defeated Plainview 30-23 on Thursday with an impressive performance from Chance Fair and Noah Sifrit. Canyon won their game against Brownwood in…
