THE 2017 DAVE CAMPBELL’S FOOTBALL MAGAZINE WRAP-UP: 806 PROJECTIONS AND MORE

Football must be around the corner because every store we walk into now, there is the new Dave Campbell’s Texas High School Football magazine; considered by some to be the bible for Texas High School Football; not by me, but by many. So how did the 806 stand out in the magazine? Who made the top 300 recruits in Texas for 2018 and 2019? What else stood out for our athletes in the 806 besides district previews which we will start going over ourself starting Monday? Who made the preseason…

Pittman’s Antelopes have always been a factor in the playoffs and last year’s team lived up to those expectations set by previous Post squads as the Antelopes made it to the Regional Quarterfinals before losing 24-21 to Abernathy; in what may have been the best game of the year in the 806. So, what happens this season? AJ Reed is off to Eastern New Mexico and AJ Escobedo will be severely missed as a leader for his troops. But, there is some serious talent returning to the fold, beginning with Michael…

806’S “SUPER SIX” RETURNING OFFENSIVE LINEMAN IN THE 806..TOP 5 TEXAS OL, TOO..

As media folks get all excited about a quarterback delivering a bomb to the receiver, or a tailback springing free for a long touchdown run, let’s not forget: those plays don’t happen without an offensive lineman making a block, picking up a blitz, or taking out a defensive lineman during the play. The value of a great offensive lineman is immeasurable to any team and their success, or non-success. If you don’t believe me, just look at the contracts the offensive lineman are getting in the National Football League. With…

FOUR THINGS THAT STOOD OUT TO ME DURING 2017 SPRING FOOTBALL IN THE 806..

Well, Spring Ball 2017 is over for the “6”..What did we learn from the 18 practices these 5A and 6A teams held over May? A lot. How about Frenship having their first-ever Spring practices and game under new management, I mean, new head coach in Northcutt and Lubbock-Cooper practicing and playing at their middle school field due to new turf being installed on their main field. Coronado opened up the spring by trying to find new playmakers in the secondary and which receivers would replace Chance Fair and Noah Sifrit…

#TXHSFB CHAMPIONSHIPS NOW 4-DAY EVENT IN 2017, 2A DI STATE SEMIS AFFECTED

Besides the State High School football championships not having four games in three days as it has now stretched out to four, the main schedule change that affected us was the 2A State Semifinal schedule will be moved up due to UIL 5-Day Rule, stating a team can’t play two games in five days. Teams like Abernathy, Stinnett, Panhandle, and Post could be forced to deal with this rule directly. Great that the UIL made this change so the games won’t be carrying on into the late nights, but how…

806 FEATURE: I STATE MY CASE FOR STUDENT-ATHLETES TO BE ABLE TO FREELY TRANSFER….

Think about this for a second..There was 16 coaching changes in the 806 area just this year; from Frenship’s Coach NorthCutt from Sachse, to Wellman-Union and Coach Joseph Hood at the 1A (SIX-MAN) level. Some due to retirement or reassignments of their previous coaches, and some moving on for a better opportunity. But, the point here is…these coaches didn’t get penalized like a student would if they moved to a different school for a better opportunity, or if their new coach has a different philosophy that doesn’t fit with that…

HOW THE “OPENING” OPENED MY EYES…. 806..WE GOT SOME WORK TO DO..

I was excited and blessed to get the opportunity to go to the Opening Regionals at the Star in Frisco, TX. on Sunday, March 5th. I wondered what and who I would see, and also what do these athletes from the Centex, Houston, and Dallas have that we don’t for their athletes to be getting all of these premium Division One offers and our kids getting the majority of DII or NAIA looks. What I saw was obvious; we are behind in a multitude of areas and those areas need…

Over 450 athletes, only SIX from the 806.  But, those six players opened some eyes and did the 806 proud at the Regional Nike Opening camp that was held on Sunday at the Star; the new facility that house the Dallas Cowboys’ training camps and Frisco ISD’s events. Kaleb King from Caprock, Trey Stephens from Coronado, Qua Gray for Coronado, Brandon Steward from Pampa, Devin White from Estacado, and Devin White from Estacado all participated among the nation’s best and they held their own in the process!
