806HSSCTXHSFB: CORONADO MUSTANGS 2017 TEAM PAGE: STANGS’ RELOADED FOR ’17

Let’s start off by giving Coronado some love for the season they had last year… Going 9-1 in the regular season with their only loss to a great Lubbock-Cooper squad, 35-30. Their playoff runs with wins over Caprock and El Paso Chapin was also impressive, and almost spectacular as they were within a point of Colleyville Heritage at the half, 28-27 before losing their Regional Quarterfinal game 43-34. The Mustangs lose two first-team all-state players in Mason Montoya and Christian Hayes, and also a second team all-state receiver in Noah Sifirt. But, the Mustangs return first team all-state Defensive lineman Miguel Garcia. Also in the fold for his Senior season is Qua Gray; an absolute technician in the pocket and very dangerous when he has time to throw it.

Trey Stephens, LB from Coronado’s 2019 class.. Jason Pearson
Also, Back for his Junior season is Trey Stephens; the linebacker who was named to the Maxpreps’ Sophomore All-American team and firmly entrenched as one of the leaders for this years’ squad! Jaylon Thomas is one of the best lineman, if not the best lineman in the 806 and he is back for his Senior season with three Division One offers already.Jarrod Compton should rush for 1,400 yards on the ground, but also add another 300-400 yards receiving out of the backfield to add to his arsenal this season. Blair Conwright should also have a breakout season at wide receiver along with Devin Morrison who will have some big shoes to fill replacing Noah and Chance Fair. Who will be the players to step up and help lead the Mustangs to another great season as their schedule will be one of the toughest in the 806, and in the 5A period?? Expect Parr’s team to get back to the Regional Quarterfinal round after finishing either first or second in 4-5A, depending on who wins their head-to-head matchup against Abilene Cooper in the last week of the regular season. Will it be Colleyville again, or Denton Ryan? Either way, the Mustangs will have the experience to advance to the 5A Regional Semifinals; let’s hope they do it this season! Below is Coronado’s 2017 Football Schedule, along with their next-level prospects.. so far….
